Emily Seabaugh: #kddidit

Once upon a summer 2014, there was a rising high school sophomore with a little too much time on her hands. Little did she know that this free time would give birth to a dream that would shape the rest of her life. While browsing the endless world of YouTube, she would discover the Disney College Program and would become determined to get in.

That girl was me.

The Disney College Program (DCP) is an internship program where college students all over America move to Orlando to work at Walt Disney World for 5+ months. Ever since I found out about it, getting in has been my biggest dream.  Before you knew it, I had my two finger point ready and knew the monorail spiel by heart. In high school, I often caught myself saying, “I can’t wait to get to college so I can apply to work at Disney World already.” Needless to say, I really wanted to become a cast member.

March 20, 2018. I was finally eligible to apply. I jumped at the chance to apply, but sadly, no interviews came. Resilient, I applied again the minute the applications went out the fall of sophomore year. I got to the phone interview, but, long story short, I did not get accepted.

January 25, 2019. Third time’s a charm, right? I applied once again for the Fall 2019 program. This time I had much more confidence and wisdom about the process than I had previously. My interview was on Wednesday, February 20 at 8:35 AM… so I woke up at 6 AM to get prepared. My dream company wanted to talk to me, so it was no time to sleep. Casey, the recruiter, and I had such a genuine conversation; it felt so right. When we hung up, I was beaming. I had a really good feeling that this could finally be my turn! I spent the next six days anxiously refreshing my Disney dashboard.

Tuesday, February 26, 2018. A Disney recruiter tweeted that there was a wave of acceptances happening that day. I was so anxious that I could not sit still. My friend Kate told me that she was accepted while she was listening to the soundtrack from Wishes, the former fireworks show at Magic Kingdom. In order to calm my nerves I decided to do the same, and sure enough, the same thing happened for me! The email I had been waiting on for so long had finally come! There are no words to describe how thrilled I was.

August 5, 2019. This is the day my dreams come true. I will move to Orlando and begin to live out my dream with new people in a new place but one that is oh so dear to my heart. I will become a cast member and be able to give back to a company that I have admired since birth.

Surely, I will miss my sweet Louisiana, but leaving for a few months will be so worth it to be able to live out my biggest dream. It’s WILD to me that I’ve achieved such a huge goal of mine before I turn twenty. This won’t be where my time with Disney will end; I am hoping that this will be the first step into a long career with the Walt Disney Company. But as for the Disney College Program, although the application and acceptance are behind me, there is SO much more to look forward to. Here’s to finding a new dream through this new adventure.
