Hello!! I’m Shelby Mills and I am from El Dorado, Arkansas. With that being said I came to Tech knowing maybe 20 people, since most students are from Louisiana. Joining a sorority is something I have dreamed about for a while. I wanted to get to know more people and joining a sorority is a great opportunity to do so.
The very first time I stepped into the Kappa Delta lodge, I just knew that’s where I would find my home. I talked to one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met, Anna Katherine Sikes, who still continues to check up on me. I knew after my connection with the first girl I met in Kappa Delta, that it was were I belonged. I remember being so happy for the rest of the day and just praying they loved me the way I loved them. Even after only 35 minutes of being there, I felt the love and friendship they share and wanted to be a part of it.
Most importantly I felt as if KD chose me. I remember thinking it might be hard to make friends in a crowd of brand new names and faces. The second I ran up the lane, I felt loved. I realized that the girls in Kappa Delta seriously love me and they don’t even fully know me. The “awkwardness” was never there. Kappa Deltas just have that ability. I was hugged by so many strangers on bid day, but no one ever felt like out of place.
The transition from high school to college has been a great one, and I have Kappa Delta to thank for that. Whenever I need help with anything I always have a sister to call. My big, Caroline Hill, is always eager to help me with school work or anything else I need advice on. Big/Little week was so much fun! Not just getting all the goodies, but also gaining a family and seeing the bond they have with each other, that they can’t wait to share with you!
Balancing school work, my sorority, and other clubs, is a bit challenging, but at the end of the day I love being involved on campus. It opens so many doors, not just while in college, but after too! I’m so thankful for Kappa Delta and don’t know where I would be without the friendships I have made!
