Being a part of the Alpha Chi chapter of Kappa Delta is definitely one of the best parts of my college experience so far – it has given me the kind of friendships that I’ve prayed about for years, a community of women who call me to a higher standard in every area of my life, and the most fun experiences that will make for heart-warming memories for years to come.
When I first joined Kappa Delta, I was excited, but a little hesitant because I didn’t know anyone! I questioned if I had made the right choice and if I would find the friendships I was hoping and praying for. Though it did take a little time and me getting outside my comfort zone, I found some of my favorite people in the entire world!! These girls are genuine, loving, fun, and supportive, they hold me accountable and encourage me to continuing growing in and pursuing my faith, my goals in life, and my love for others. I have found the uplifting and real friendships that I have prayed for since middle school, here in Kappa Delta.
Another way that Kappa Delta has enriched my college experience is that it has provided me exciting experiences and opportunities that I know I will remember forever! Though there are lots of super fun events that Kappa Delta hosts, I know that some of my favorite memories are from spontaneous moments with my sisters! Whether it’s staying up until 4 am waiting for it to snow, watching movies all night long, road tripping to Fort Worth, or playing board games while stuffing our faces with cookies, I know these are the moments where my friendships were strengthened, my heart was filled, and my love for Kappa Delta grew!
Philanthropy and Community Service are really important to our chapter, and that is something that really drew me to Kappa Delta. I feel that as the hands and feet of Jesus, serving and loving others should be a priority in life. Our involvement with our philanthropies – Prevent Child Abuse America, Girl Scouts of the USA, and The Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home – is truly life-changing and humbling because we get the tangible experience of loving on the kids that our support goes to. The opportunities that I get as Vice President-Community Service to serve are like none other that I have ever experienced. I get to plan every philanthropy and community service event, and this trust in me instills confidence in my leadership and creativity. These times of service also instill in me a deeper love for the women of Kappa Delta because I see a project from the beginning to the end and I get to see how compassionate my sisters are at every step of the way.
Though I’ve only been in Kappa Delta for about a year and a half, it has given me friendships, memories, and life lessons that I know will last me a life time! Before I was in house, I heard Mrs. Corre Stegall say that the more she tries to repay Kappa Delta for all the good it has given to her, the more she feels like she owes. I now understand what she means – Kappa Delta never stops providing opportunities for leadership, friendship, and growth!! I don’t think I will ever be able to repay KD for all the memories and friendships that it has given me. I am so thankful for my experiences so far and can’t wait to see what else the future holds.
