New Year, Same Sisterhood

Happy 2020! There's no better time to reflect on sisterhood and dream up possibilities for all that sisterhood could become than the new year. Here are some insights into the thoughts and reflections of a few sisters encompassing all that sisterhood and friendship means to them. Enjoy!

What did you learn about sisterhood this year?

I came into Kappa Delta having very low, yet very high expectations all at the same time. Everything seemed to hit me like a whirlwind, and the nonexistent, yet very conscious, expectations seemed to show themselves more and more. This year has opened my eyes to more empathy, more connection, and more depth within the confines of my friendships. I learned that expectations really don't hold all the weight I may have thought they did and that true, real, genuine friendships are built from a mutual place of grace, humility, and the goal to understand and to learn things I may have previously had no insight or knowledge about. The best friendships have always come to me in the most random and unexpected ways, and they have all been some of my greatest life's teachers. Knowing that we are all mirrors of one another and that we are all invited to become good learners, rather than just teachers in our friendships, has made my friendships grow beyond anything I ever could have imagined.

What do you hope to grow in and see on your friendships in 2020?

I hope to always cultivate friendships that are both alike and totally different to me, and I hope to continue learning, growing, and stewarding my friendships well. I truly hope for my friendships to represent more of the Kingdom and diversity of Heaven, friendships that stretch me and challenge me and inspire me and humble me. I hope for that well just to become deeper and even more refined in 2020.

What did you learn about sisterhood this year?

This year I have learned a lot about sisterhood. I have learned that these people are always going to be with you, they’re always going to back you up, and they’re always going to love you. These are the girls that I want to spend the rest of my life with because I know that they will always be there for me. Before entering a sorority I honestly didn’t know what sisterhood really meant, now I truly know. I have met so many wonderful girls that have encouraged me to grow and sisterhood and understand what it means. Sisterhood is a community where we all love each other and encourage each other to be who we are and to do what we love.

What do you hope to grow in and see on your friendships in 2020?

In 2020 I hope to continue growing alongside my sisters. I want to continue to learn more about everyone and grow closer to each other. I hope to find strong bonds that will last a lifetime, not just in the next years to come.

What did you learn about sisterhood this year?

For the short time I’ve been in KD, I’ve learned that sisterhood is being supportive and loving to any sister, no matter what the circumstance.

What do you hope to grow in and see on your friendships in 2020?

What did you learn about sisterhood this year?

This past year I have learned that sisterhood means constantly and consistently encouraging one another, low points AND high points, tough times AND good times.

What do you hope to grow in and see on your friendships in 2020?

In 2020, I want to know my friends more deeply, meaning that I not only know what’s going on in their lives but also what’s going on in their hearts.

What did you learn about sisterhood this year?

This year being in Kappa Delta I’ve learned a lot about sisterhood. From showing up to events with your sisters, to late-night study sessions for a big test. Sisterhood means loving each other without judgment and boosting each other even with differences. I’ve felt so much love this year due to meeting my new best friends through KD.  Sisterhood is when you find your second family, which I can honestly say I’ve found since becoming a Kappa Delta.

What do you hope to grow in and see on your friendships in 2020?

I hope to continue to find and build these special friendships.

What did you learn about sisterhood this year?

I’m so happy that I met two of my best friends in KD; my amazing big Leighton and my new bestie Rebecca Pippin. They have become part of my new tech my family! I’m thanking God every day for putting them in my life.

What do you hope to grow in and see on your friendships in 2020?

I hope to grow closer to these girls and many others in the next year!

What did you learn about sisterhood this year?

Kappa Delta’s values and strong sisterhood bonds have been shown to me my entire life through my mom and her sorority sisters. I dreamed forever to have sisterhood bonds like those I looked up to. When I became a Kappa Delta this fall, all my dreams were more fulfilled than I ever imagined! From day one, I never failed to have an older sister give me advice, help me in a class, or just talk to me in the halls. I have already become so close to some of the most wonderful girls who share my same values and morals in life.

What do you hope to grow in and see on your friendships in 2020?

Going into 2020, I hope to make more of these genuine connections with more sisters. Through our sisterhood events, we each have an opportunity to meet someone new at every event and meeting. These sisters and our friendships are forever!
