On March 16, 2019 the Alpha Chi chapter hosted our annual Shamrock 5K at Lincoln Parish Park. Vice President Community Service, Maddie Lechtenberg, and her Shamrock team consisting of chairs, Anna Grace Whitaker, and Lexi Epling as well as assistants Mary Grace Dupuy, Caroline Hill, and Lindsey Thornton worked hard all year to ensure the race was a success. This year we raised the most ever for our chapter, with the funds totaling to $32,300.68.
The best thing about Shamrock is that 100% of the profit goes to two very deserving philanthropies. Eighty percent of the proceeds go to benefit our local philanthropy, the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home and twenty percent is sent to a national philanthropy, Prevent Child Abuse America.
The Louisiana Methodist Children's Home is located in Ruston, LA and serves as a home for children from poor family backgrounds and strives to equip them with skills to be successful after leaving their facility. They have multiple locations throughout the state and serve a wide variety of children coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. Our partnership with the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home allows them to maintain their facility and provide a fun atmosphere for the kids to learn to work together. Additionally, give them a follow on Instagram, @lumcfs, and watch their YouTube channel www.youtube.com/watch?v.
Prevent Child Abuse America is a national philanthropy supported by Kappa Delta's everywhere. It was founded by a Kappa Delta sister, Donna Stone, in 1972. It aims to promote the healthy development of children across the country by preventing abuse before it can occur and to guide children in becoming healthy, contributing members of society. This year, we hosted 255 runners of all ages. Children from the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home were in attendance as well as Champ the bulldog. We gave out awards for male and female participant winning each age division.
The support of Ruston, La's community was instrumental to our success. We had a total of 49 sponsorships from a combination of family donations, other sororities and fraternities, and local businesses. We are so thankful for our sponsors dedication to our chapter and our cause.
Our Shamrock 5k was a huge success - we were able to raise $32,300.68 for Prevent Child Abuse America and The Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home! This incredible achievement is due to both the preparation of my Shamrock team and I, as well as the chapter’s enthusiasm and excitement. Our chapters attitude and hard work towards Shamrock is truly the perfect image of what Kappa Delta is meant to be: a group of sisters supporting each other and the community! Personally, I am so thankful for this once in a lifetime experience and the friendships that have come from it! - Maddie Lechtenberg, Vice President Community Service
